What is a Tallit or Tallis? The word tallit or tallis are the same, just pronouned differently in the different dialects. A Tallit of Tallis is the prayer shawl worn by Jewish people during morning prayer. The plural of "Tallit" is "Tallitot" or "Talleisim." The "Tallis" is traditionally made from wool, and traditional talleisim and tallitot still are. Some modern Tallitot or Talleisim are now made from other fabrics. On each of the four corners of a tallit are tzitzis, which are fringes that are tied onto the tallit garment according to strict Tallis law.
